Prerequisites:

  • Private Pilot License (PPL)
  • Class 3 Medical Certificate or higher
  • Minimum of 50 hours cross-country flight time as pilot-in-command

Description: The Instrument Rating (IR) is essential for pilots looking to enhance their skills by flying in a wider range of weather conditions. This rating allows you to operate under Instrument Flight Rules (IFR), focusing on advanced navigation and flight in low visibility.

Training Overview:

  • Ground Training: Advanced instruction in IFR regulations, navigation systems, approach and departure procedures, and meteorology.
  • Flight Training: 40+ hours under simulated or actual instrument conditions, including:
    • Instrument approaches and holds
    • En-route navigation using VOR, GPS, and other systems
    • IFR cross-country flights

Duration: Typically 2-4 months, depending on student progress and availability.

  • Cost is around $9600 based on minimum of 15 hours Dual instructions and 35
    hours of simulated instrument flying with a safety pilot
